BradAss1987 is UK citizen and needs protection, government told by Amnesty International

The hapless Private Bradley Manning sure has some dedicated friends.  Sometimes it seems they write for Carol Moseley Braun when they are not making up stories to draw sympathy for bradass1987.

Catching up a bit, courtesy of the John Batchelor Show, several "human rights" groups now complain that Bradley Manning is being held in solitary confinement at the US Marine base in Quantico, VA and that is something bad.  It turns out that he is under suicide watch at the request of his parents.

The latest big smokescreen is the technical fact that, by bloodline, he is also eligible for Welsh citizenship.

Bradley Manning is UK citizen and needs protection, government told | World news | The Guardian:
"So far, however, Manning's British status has not impinged itself upon the UK authorities. The British embassy in Washington said it had not received any requests to visit Manning in jail. 'It hasn't crossed our path yet,' an official said."
Sounds like more straw grasping by the Left for their traitor-du-jour.  For one thing, he swore an oath to the United States:

"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

See the key element up there that I bolded?  It means dual citizenship, passport or not, does not mean a dam thing and you are still a US Soldier who is not supposed to be doing data-dumps to Australian video fabricators.

Back to the Guardian article and one of their more humorous statements:
Amnesty's UK director, Kate Allen, said: "His Welsh parentage means the UK government should demand his 'maximum custody' status does not impair his ability to defend himself, and we would also like to see Foreign Office officials visiting him just as they would any other British person detained overseas and potentially facing trial on very serious charges."
That would seem almost serious, rather than side-splittingly funny if Manning had bothered to ask for British citizenship.  No, it would still be funny because anybody with dual citizenship in the custody of either sovereign gets the big blow-off from the other.

Perhaps Kate Allen is under the impression that the UK is still am empire and the USA is still part of it: hi hi.

For those who claim that Manning is some sort of heroic whistleblower, there are multiple legal avenues for doing that.  Just ask Sergeant Joseph M. Darby. He reported the misconduct at Abu Ghraib in January, 2004.  Contrary to popular myth, no aging news reporter broke the story, CENTCOM briefed it to the press long before anybody in the press paid any attention to it.

Manning could have done the same thing, if that was his intention.  See the video "Collateral Lies" for more on the antics of Julian Assange and WilkiLeaks.
