The Justice Department on Monday charged a former CIA officer with repeatedly leaking classified information, including the identities of agency operatives involved in the capture and interrogation of alleged terrorists.

The case against John Kiriakou, who also served as a senior Senate aide, extends the Obama administration’s crackdown on disclosures of national security secrets. Kiriakou, 47, is the sixth target of a leaks-related prosecution since President Obama took office, exceeding the total number of comparable prosecutions under all previous administrations combined, legal experts said.

Accused Turncoat John Kiriakou
Kiriakou, who was among the first to go public with details about the CIA’s use of waterboarding and other harsh interrogation measures, was charged with disclosing classified information to reporters and lying to the agency about the origin of other sensitive material he published in a book. He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

While working in the Washington, DC beltway it quickly became painfully apparent that the culture there is one of big mouths and delusions of grandeur. I was one of the few people there who was satisfied with my work, both in contribution to the defense of the United States and with what I was being paid.

Kiriakou strikes me as a different sort. He does not appear to have been content with inflating his resume or telling grand stories in the neighborhood bar. No, he had to go running around blabbing to reporters about his work and pass conjecture off as fact. Now, if he had been an independent researcher who uncovered all of this stuff, then went about on a self marketing spree to make a buck later, that would be fine. The problem is that he was in the employ of others with perfectly legal, perfectly fine nondisclosure agreements in place. I am sure the Cosmotarians and Liberaltarians out there may feel the nondisclosure agreement an affront to our liberty, but no true libertarian should. It is the agreement he entered, knowing full well the consequences.

Some libertarians may take the position that if a private citizen cannot jail a former employee for disclosing confidential information, then the government should not be able to either. We do have a process to make that the law of the land, but I doubt a future Ron Paul bill proposing such a scenario will gain much traction.

He was at war with anybody who was too successful, just like his cousin Franklin Delano Roosevelt was when he began his National Socialist reign.

Of the many problems with Leftists, especially the ones with extensive academic 'experience', is that they are too stupid to realize what simpletons they are and they assume anybody who disagrees with them is really a big simpleton. For some reason, they feel like invoking TR is going to sell with Conservatives just because TR was a Republican for a little while.

They do this all the time with Reagan, when they are not calling for his corpse to be exhumed so he can be burned in effigy, when they mention Reagan's "tax increases". The "Reagan tax increases" were tax increases from the Congress, that Reagan agreed not to oppose, that were supposed to be accompanied by spending decreases than never happened.

The Left also pillories Reagan for 'his' tax cuts. Granted, many conservatives get this one wrong too, but these too were the work of the Congress. Granted, they were the work of a congress that was lobbied hard by Reagan and a vast majority of the American people urged on by Reagan, but they were still passed by two houses of Congress and signed by the executive.

The American Left, especially modern Democrats, are like those art students in college who bumbled into a Finance class and proceeded to try to tell everybody how right Fidel and Marx were.

ISIS compared a November 22 image from DigitalGlobe to one from September.

"Some buildings appear to have been completely destroyed. Some of the destruction seen in the image may have also resulted from subsequent controlled demolition of buildings and removal of debris. There do not appear to be many pieces of heavy equipment such as cranes or dump trucks on the site, and a considerable amount of debris is still present," according to the analysis posted on ISIS website.

A large explosion has been reported in the Iranian city of Isfahan as the regime issued conflicting reports apparently designed to deny any suggestions of a sabotage attack on its nuclear facilities.
Officials gave varying accounts of a "huge explosion" in the ancient city, which hosts one of Iran's main facilities for refining uranium in its nuclear programme.

While some sources told news agencies there had been a blast on military facilities, others said there had been a fireball at a petrol station.

Residents of the city were independently telling relatives and friends overseas that the city had been shaken by a massive blast in the early afternoon.

The reports immediately prompted speculation that Iran had suffered another sabotage attack, just two weeks after a blast at a missile base gave rise to similar suspicions.

An explosion rocked the western Iranian city of Isfahan on Monday, the semi-official Fars news agency reported, adding that the blast was heard in several parts of the city.

According to reports, frightened residents called the fire department after the blast, forcing the city authorities to admit there had been an explosion.Residents reported that their windows shook from the explosion's force.

Speaking to an Iranian news website, the government of Isfahan said that the explosion occurred as a result of a military drill, denying reports that the blast was somehow related to the nearby nuclear facility.

"There is no such thing, the blast was entirely from the military maneuver," the Iranian official said.

The Isfahan uranium conversion plant operates under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and is frequented by its inspectors and surveyed by cameras that broadcast to the IAEA headquarters in Vienna.

Thus, had the explosion occurred at the nuclear site, the UN's nuclear watchdog would have known of the incident.

Speaking with Fars news agency earlier Monday, Isfahan’s deputy mayor initially confirmed the reports and said the authorities are investigating the matter. However, after the incident was reported in Israel, the report was taken off the Fars website.

It seems that city authorities and the Iranian government were embarrassed by the reports of a blasts, releasing contradictory versions of the alleged events. One example is a statement given by the same deputy mayor to the Mehr news agency, saying he had no reports of an explosion.

Cops busted a man from Youngstown, Ohio this weekend for driving around the OWS protest and Lower Manhattan with an unregistered gun.

Law enforcement said Joshua Fellows, 32, had a .45-calibre handgun and 32 rounds of ammunition in a truck he’d rented in North Carolina.

Fellows was originally busted on Thursday at 12:40 p.m. at Broadway and Exchange Place on a reckless driving charge after cops saw up to 40 people jumping in and out of the Budget rental truck

They seized the truck and found the gun during a search, and found Fellows Saturday at 9:10 p.m. at West Street and Rector Place.

Good Morning America's Josh Elliott on Monday repeated White House talking points in regard to the booing of Michelle Obama at a NASCAR event on Sunday. News reader Elliott played a clip of the booing and then parroted, "The White House says it was a chaotic event. It was not clear, perhaps, what the boos were specifically for."

The Today show didn't cover the event at all. On the Early Show, Jeff Glor linked, "Some people booed [Michelle Obama and Jill Biden] when they showed up last night. They were on hand to honor military troops and their families."

The whales had been perfectly preserved in the sedementary rock beneath the Atacama desert, with a number of fossils being unearthed in pristine condition, including a family group that appears to be a mother, father and baby whale. This area was long known to be a good place for finding whale fossils, popularily known among the locals as “Whale Hill.”

All these marvelous and valuable fossils, however, could’ve been lost forever, or even worse, destroyed by a potential highway which was projected to pass through the site. Luckily, paleontologist Mario Suarez managed to persuade his government to recover the bones first. Moreover, the government now plans to build a new museum to house what appears to be an amazing collection.

Sounds like the brave paleontologist intervened just in time to save the dead whales! Wouldn't want them saved to be sold to bidders willing to pay top dollar for fossils or anything.

Climategate erupted into public with the release in November 2009 of thousands of emails sent to and from researchers associated with the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia. It became a scandal because some of the emails seemed to suggest that prominent climate researchers may have fiddled with historical climate data with the goal of making recent increases in global average temperature look worse than it is. Suspicion was cast on three sets of historical temperature data, Hadley Centre/CRU series, the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) series, and a third one from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

As a possible example of scientifically illegitimate manipulation, skeptics pointed to an email from National Center for Atmospheric Research climate scientist Tom Wigley where he mentioned lowering mid-20th century temperatures by 0.15C. This would have the effect of making the later increase of global temperatures look steeper.

(CBS News) They were the spies next door: Ten Russians, arrested last year in a flashback to the Cold War.
As it turns out, the FBI was on to them for a decade, as they lived seemingly normal lives in the U.S. On Monday, the Bureau put out a trove of surveillance tapes.

CBS News correspondent Bob Orr watched the tapes, and reports there are interesting tidbits therein, especially about the infamous "sexy spy" Anna Chapman.

In June, 2010, Anna Chapman visited a New York coffee shop to get help with a computer from her Russian handler. But, she didn't know that handler was an undercover FBI agent and the meeting was being secretly recorded.

"The FBI undercover agent was so convincing that Anna Chapman actually handed over her covert laptop to the FBI undercover agent," said Frank Figliuzzi, the FBI's top counter-intelligence agent.

At the Federal Communications Commission's June 9, 2011 Agenda meeting, Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau Chief Jamie Barnett, joined by representatives from FEMA and the National Weather Service, announced that the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) would take place at 2:00 PM (Eastern Standard Time) on November 9, 2011. The purpose of the test is to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the EAS as a public alert mechanism. EAS Participants currently participate in state-level monthly tests and local-level weekly tests, but no top-down review of the entire system has ever been undertaken. The Commission, along with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, will use the results of this nationwide test to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the EAS as a public alert mechanism, and will work together with EAS stakeholders to make improvements to the system as appropriate.
