TPM, You Have A Low Tolerance For Shock

Here are the top five things that "shocked" the pantie-twisters at TPM:
1. Nearly every country in the Middle East wants us to attack Iran.
2. State Department officials ordered U.S. diplomats to spy on their foreign and UN counterparts. (yes, that is me clapping with both hands, if we are still doing it)

3. North Korea supplied Iran with long-range missiles.
4. Iran used the auspices of the Red Crescent to smuggle spies and weapons into war zones.
5. U.S. foreign policy relies heavily on blog-ready gossip items.

Would you kids grow a pair?  One pair total between all of you sill be fine.  Most of this was already known.

I thought this was posted here before. I know I read of this ant the Twitter account before.

North Korea has apparently decided this social networking thing is worth doing. Just days after launching Twitter and YouTube accounts, it appears to have added Facebook to the list. It probably won't get too many friends in South Korea, which has already blocked access to the North Korean Twitter account for containing 'illegal information' under its security laws...and says the Facebook page could suffer the same fate.

I wonder how that Facebook Places feature is working for them?

Series tie-in: The Koreas are reunited in both series. In Suki III when one of John's nurses mentions she and her husband are going to work in the old North Korea at a new hospital.

You may have heard of Shin Sang-ok, the pioneer South Korean filmmaker who was kidnapped by the totalitarian regime in the north so it could have a world-class director of its own. What I didn't realize until I read this link-rich Metafilter summary of his career is where Shin turned his talents after he finally escaped communist captivity:

While in the United States, Shin used the pseudonym Simon S. Sheen, and he lived in Southern California for some while. Under his newly assumed name, he worked on the three 3 Ninjas sequels, the last of which featured Hulk Hogan.

I recommend reading the whole account, which also includes some interesting info on the harsh regulatory regime that Shin endured in South Korea. Bad as those rules could be, I suspect Shin missed them terribly once he'd been shanghaied to the north.

It remains unclear whether a South Korean fishing boat seized by a North Korean patrol on Sunday had strayed into the North's territorial waters or their so-called exclusive economic zone, but there is speculation that the North seized the vessel and crew to use them as bargaining chips in negotiations with South Korea.

A Unification Ministry official said this would be the first case where a South Korean ship that was seized in the North Korean EEZ was dragged to a North Korean port.

North Korea has not yet officially informed South Korea of the seizure. The North fired around 130 artillery rounds near the maritime border in the West Sea on Monday.
