New satellite imagery shows the extent of damage to the Iranian military compound that blew up earlier this month, was extensively damaged, the Institute for Science and International Security said after an analysis of new satellite imagery.

ISIS compared a November 22 image from DigitalGlobe to one from September.

"Some buildings appear to have been completely destroyed. Some of the destruction seen in the image may have also resulted from subsequent controlled demolition of buildings and removal of debris. There do not appear to be many pieces of heavy equipment such as cranes or dump trucks on the site, and a considerable amount of debris is still present," according to the analysis posted on ISIS website.

Mystery explosion rocks Iran city

A large explosion has been reported in the Iranian city of Isfahan as the regime issued conflicting reports apparently designed to deny any suggestions of a sabotage attack on its nuclear facilities.
Officials gave varying accounts of a "huge explosion" in the ancient city, which hosts one of Iran's main facilities for refining uranium in its nuclear programme. 

While some sources told news agencies there had been a blast on military facilities, others said there had been a fireball at a petrol station. 

Residents of the city were independently telling relatives and friends overseas that the city had been shaken by a massive blast in the early afternoon. 

The reports immediately prompted speculation that Iran had suffered another sabotage attack, just two weeks after a blast at a missile base gave rise to similar suspicions.

An explosion rocked the western Iranian city of Isfahan on Monday, the semi-official Fars news agency reported, adding that the blast was heard in several parts of the city. 

According to reports, frightened residents called the fire department after the blast, forcing the city authorities to admit there had been an explosion.Residents reported that their windows shook from the explosion's force. 

Speaking to an Iranian news website, the government of Isfahan said that the explosion occurred as a result of a military drill, denying reports that the blast was somehow related to the nearby nuclear facility. 

"There is no such thing, the blast was entirely from the military maneuver," the Iranian official said. 

The Isfahan uranium conversion plant operates under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and is frequented by its inspectors and surveyed by cameras that broadcast to the IAEA headquarters in Vienna. 

Thus, had the explosion occurred at the nuclear site, the UN's nuclear watchdog would have known of the incident. 

Speaking with Fars news agency earlier Monday, Isfahan’s deputy mayor initially confirmed the reports and said the authorities are investigating the matter. However, after the incident was reported in Israel, the report was taken off the Fars website. 

It seems that city authorities and the Iranian government were embarrassed by the reports of a blasts, releasing contradictory versions of the alleged events. One example is a statement given by the same deputy mayor to the Mehr news agency, saying he had no reports of an explosion.

Libya's revolution is the Replay of Iran 1979

When I grow up I wanna be like Jimmy.

The mainstream media has been breathlessly announcing one revolution after another is like Iran in 1979, as if that is what they are waiting for.  Well, press, this is the revolution you have been waiting for, the Libyan revolution of 2011.

Carter only liked anti-USA dictators.

In late 1970s Iran, a revolution fomented and was fueled by an outside source.  In that case, it was the Ayatollah Khomeini.  The conduit was the "state-of-the-art" telephone system the Shah had wired the nation with.  Khomeini was in Paris, France and had a daily message of the day and one of the main international long distance services for Iran was the French telecommunications company.  Khomeini's message of the day frequently called for revolt and it finally worked.  In the case of Libya, the source has not yet been revealed, but the similarities in outcome are uncanny.

The 2011 revolts in Tunisia, Egypt and other locations only resemble 1979 Iran and 2011 Libya in the sense that they are popular revolts against the government.  Something else the 2011 revolts have in common is they tend to be former Soviet client states that became friendly with the USA in recent years, at a time when Russia appears to be working to revive the old Soviet client state system.  What is actually a remarkably uncanny similarity between 1979 Iran and 2011 Libya is the attacks on police stations and military garrisons by the revolutionaries.  This is not a subtle difference, but a dramatic difference from the other revolts.

Results of Carter's Iran policy.

In 1979 Iran, the student and 'peasant' revolution resulted in toppling the military, which looks like it will happen at any moment in Libya if it has not happened already as I write, the Shah's security forces did not protect him and he fled the country.  In the case of Iran, the situation and much of the chaos could have been averted if the USA President, Carter, would have intervened with some support for the Shah.  however, Carter threw his support behind the Ayatollah and opted for an appeasement strategy, which resulted in a 444 day long hostage crisis.  Combined with his appeasement strategy, Carter ordered a military rescue mission "Desert One" that resulted in numerous US military deaths.

Libyans have attacked the military, like 1979 Iran

In the case of the Libyan revolt, it is much too early to tell what will happen in the end.  However, if the fresh track record of President Obama is any indication, the most anti-West and anti-democratic elements in Libya will be encouraged by Obama and "invited to the table."  Since taking office, the Obama administration has taken the side of the most Iran-friendly elements wherever there is a political or revolutionary conflict.  Begin with Gaza, his support and funding of Hamas, move through the months and then linger on Egypt.  It is an indisputable pattern of supporting the most anti-democratic organizations in whatever country is in revolt.  Back to Iran, they have had two national revolts since President Obama has been inaugurated and all he says is that nobody should interfere with the internal affairs of governments that want to shoot their own citizens.

Perhaps he knows the egg breaking analogy has become telegraphic and chose a wordier version of the same thing.

"Authorities have detained 55-year-old American woman on spying charges in the town of Nordouz, the state-owned newspaper IRAN reported on Thursday.

The daily said the woman, identified as Hall Talayan, had spying equipment hidden on her body when customs authorities detained her in the border town, 370 miles northwest of the capital Tehran.

Here are the top five things that "shocked" the pantie-twisters at TPM:

2. State Department officials ordered U.S. diplomats to spy on their foreign and UN counterparts. (yes, that is me clapping with both hands, if we are still doing it)

5. U.S. foreign policy relies heavily on blog-ready gossip items.

Middle East Aligned in a Coalition Like in Suki IV: Finally a Vacation

Thanks, WikiLeaks for the 'news' that the Middle East wants Iran bombed out of the nuclear club.  The 'revelation' here is that Israel is the only country that wants to do it themselves.  The list of our Middle East allies who want the good ol' USA to do it is growing:
United Arab Emirates
Saudi Arabia
Jordan
Egypt
Not an all inclusive list, I am sure.  Just the top players that I could find stories about.  Now, what of that whole business that "the Jews" (meaning Israel proper and anybody Jewish, by people using it as an invective)?  Israel is the only damn country in the area that wants to take care of this themselves and the only country in the world that the USA is preventing from de-nuking Iran.

I denounce Wikileaks and that little traitor Private that leaked this stuff.  However, I must say, the only people this stuff seems to be embarrassing is a bunch of worthless seat-warmers in Foggy Bottom, at the Department of State.  Apparently, nobody over there knows that you do not put anything in a memo that will be embarrassing on the front page of a newspaper.

Liberaltarian Matt Welch, at Reason, was brought to a state of glee for completely different reasons.  He just likes seeing Arabs embarrassed.  Welch does give a nod to the effect of this release on authoritarian states lying to their masses.  As if this will awaken them more.  Most of the folks I met from those countries mention their leaders lying without prompting.

Curious how WikiLeaks never 'finds' any documents from the troublemakers in the 'religion of peace' (I am assured, the bad ones are in the minority) to "open the minds and eyes" of the jihadis?

Rush Limbaugh stated that the leaked documents contain nothing about North Korea supplying Iran with nuclear technology, missiles, etc.  Guess he missed #3 in this story.

In Suki IV: Finally A Vacation (War With Iran) I speculate that in the 2030s the whole world has dragged their feet about the Iranian problem.  Just like today.  Different nations urged the US to form a coalition with them (yes, I showed our allies in a nicer light than their behavior currently reveals).  The budding alliances came and went, while only one country continued to plan how to deal with Iran.

Finally, Iran's target list was discovered for rocket and ship-borne nuclear weapons.  To their lackadaisical surprise, European, Asian and African targets were on the list for missiles, the Americas were slated for nukes on freighters.

The world allied with Israel and Israel led the way, as the freighters were on the way to their targets.  No nukes were used by the allies.

The Iranian Air Force announced that they'd be having a UFO conference to investigate the sightings, but I never heard any more about that. It's interesting to see how in Iran, just as in the UK or the US, initial reports of lights in the sky will quite quickly transform into more dramatic stories -- the second wave of sightings in 2004 involved strange robot creatures with claw arms hovering in the skies. This kind of escalation is a natural part of the folkloric narrative process, though it's also possible that these stories were faked by witnesses or journalists to sell newspapers, or were even planted by Iran's enemies to stir up unease.
Bright lights don't necessarily rule out spy planes or drones, maybe they were there to distract attention from another covert operation. Or perhaps the purpose was to generate unease and fear amongst the population with the eventual goal of destabilising the regime. The US planned to fly "ghost planes" over Libya in 1986 for similar reasons, though the project was never carried out.

"TEHRAN, Iran – A complex computer worm capable of seizing control of industrial plants has affected the personal computers of staff working at Iran's first nuclear power station weeks before the facility is to go online, the official news agency reported Sunday.

The project manager at the Bushehr nuclear plant, Mahmoud Jafari, said a team is trying to remove the malware from several affected computers, though it 'has not caused any damage to major systems of the plant,' the IRNA news agency reported.

It was the first sign that the malicious computer code, dubbed Stuxnet, which has spread to many industries in Iran, has also affected equipment linked to the country's nuclear program, which is at the core of the dispute between Tehran and Western powers like the United States.

Experts in Germany discovered the worm in July, and it has since shown up in a number of attacks — primarily in Iran, Indonesia, India and the U.S.

The malware is capable of taking over systems that control the inner workings of industrial plants."

Ahmadinejad Reveals his Truther Roots in UN Speech

"UNITED NATIONS -- The U.S. delegation walked out of the U.N. speech of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Thursday after he said some in the world have speculated that Americans were actually behind the Sept. 11 terror attacks, staged in an attempt to assure Israel's survival.

He did not explain the logic of that statement that was made as he attacked the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ahmadinejad said there were three theories about the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks:

- That 'powerful and complex terrorist group' penetrated U.S. intelligence and defenses.

-'That some segments within the U.S. government orchestrated the attack to reverse the declining American economy and its grips on the Middle East in order also to save the Zionist regime. The majority of the American people as well as other nations and politicians agree with this view.'

The Americans stood and walked out without listening to the third theory that the attack was the work of 'a terrorist group but the American government supported and took advantage of the situation.'

Mark Kornblau, spokesman of the U.S. Mission to the world body, issued a statement within moments of Ahmadinejad's attack."

If the Israelis do nothing, they know that they would eventually be staring at an internally unstable, virulently anti-Semitic, terrorist-fond regime with nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. Simply imagining the probable hair-trigger scenarios in which Israel will have to play atomic-bluff with Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei and the Revolutionary Guard Corps -- the organization that oversees Iran's nuclear program -- ought to be enough to make any rational nuclear planner shudder. For the first time ever, the same organization that has been responsible for all of the Islamic Republic's terrorist liaison relationships -- including an operationally supportive relationship with al-Qaeda after the 1998 Africa embassy bombings, according to the 9/11 Commission Report -- would control nuclear weapons. Then imagine other Middle Eastern regimes, especially the Saudi state, built upon Wahhabism, also acquiring the bomb in order to counter Iranian Shiite power -- and you can see why the nerves of any Israeli nuclear planner have to be fried. …

What the Israelis need to do is change this dynamic. A preventive strike offers them the only conceivable alternative for doing so. Any bombing run will, at least temporarily, shock the international system and rock Iran internally. The Israelis will have shown that they are deadly serious about confronting the Iranian nuclear threat, that they are willing to go on a permanent war-footing with the Islamic Republic and its deadliest ally, the Hizbollah, which will probably unleash rocket hell on Israel in turn. Although President Obama may become (privately) furious with the Israelis, any Israeli strike will make the United States, and probably even the reluctant Europeans, more determined to shut down Iran's program. If Khamenei and the Guard Corps respond to an Israeli strike with terrorism, which is likely, then they could well put themselves into a strategic cul-de-sac, especially if they strike out against American targets or do something truly stupid, like trying to shut down the Strait of Hormuz. …

[W]e've got at least a 51 percent chance that the Israelis will strike by next summer. If they do, Israeli pilots will unlikely be flying with the conviction that they can end the Iranian nuclear menace forever. But they will, no-doubt, be hoping that, with some luck, they can change a nuclear equation that will otherwise put atomic weapons in the hands of a regime that holds international conferences denying the Holocaust's existence, while arming and funding those who strive for Israel's annihilation.

'Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad unveiled today the first UAV bomber produced by Iran. The drone, named Karrar (farsi for Striker) can carry various types of bombs. It can reach up to 900 km/h in speed and has a range of 1000 kilometers (620 miles). The Iranian president mentions that 'Karrar is a symbol of the progress of defence technology in Iran.''

It looks remarkably like an old German V1!

There is actually a series tie-in here. In Suki IV: Finally A Vacation, John and Suki get caught up as contractors in a war with Iran. John's son, Tag, is in the war as a soldier too.  The fan fiction that both Sarah and I wrote relates back to the war with Iran.  No connection to the new series, yet.

In an exclusive interview with the Guardian, the woman whose sentence of death by stoning triggered an international outcry has accused the Iranian authorities of lying about the charges against her to pave the way to execute her in secret.

Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, 43, was sentenced to death by stoning for adultery but it was commuted to hanging after an international outcry. Her initial sentence was for 'having an illicit relationship outside marriage' but Iranian officials have claimed that she was also found guilty of murdering her husband and should still face death by stoning.

In the interview, which took place through an intermediary who cannot be named for security reasons, she said: 'They're lying. They are embarrassed by the international attention on my case and they are desperately trying to distract attention and confuse the media so that they can kill me in secret.'
