Mrs. Fred Speaks Out About Her WMAL Dismissal

Will WMAL change its call sign to KPLO?
Another followup to this and this in the ongoing WMAL vs. the Grandy's story.

Catherine Mann, aka Mrs. Fred
Mrs. Fred | WMAL dismissal | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment:
"I’m not sure exactly what I said that they objected to, but if I had to guess, I’d guess it was how I concluded the show: “If I don’t return next Friday to continue this discussion, you’ll know that CAIR has successfully put pressure on WMAL — and the radical Muslims have won.”

Needless to say, my dismissal bothered me a tad. For a long time Fred and I have both believed the struggle against Islamic extremism is a secret war most Americans don’t even know we are fighting — and losing. We need more intelligence, not less.

Major Hasan
When management disagreed, Fred felt his microphone had also been muzzled and he resigned. That bothered me too. Now he’ll be around the house all day.

But you know what really bothered me? It was waking up not 24 hours after our broadcast careers abruptly ended to learn two American soldiers on their way to Afghanistan had been shot dead at the airport in Frankfurt, Germany, by some 21-year-old kid from Kosovo shouting “Allahu Akhbar” — the same thing Major Hassan shouted."
Italicization mine.

While I support the Grandy's in their efforts to get the truth out about Sharia, especially Sharia in America, I also support the rights of the microphone owners.  Property rights rule with me, so it should be no surprise that I find nothing "wrong" with what WMAL did.  They have a thriving business and the popularity of the content is pretty high on the list of items of importance in the calculus of their operations.  They are not exactly The Pacifica Network, The National Review or The Reason Foundation, they operate on a for-profit basis.

The one WMAL source of mine did mention the ratings and how the share of the show would drop when Mrs. Fred began doing the Sharia segments.  Everything else she did was popular, but the Sharia segments lost listeners.  Mrs. Mann-Graham does not mention that directly, but she indicates it in the second paragraph of her editorial.  This is a key element that cannot be dismissed.  Sure, some shows do not need a broad audience to be profitable.  The Imus in the Morning show is probably the most visible example of a drive-time talk radio show that has a very small listenership, however the listeners he has are courted by advertisers who spend great amounts of money for commercial time, segment sponsorships and mentions on the show.  On the other extreme, Rush Limbaugh has had the biggest audience in radio for years and his loyal sponsors pay great amounts of money to reach many people.

All that said, WMAL lost me as a listener when Fred Grandy resigned.  From the online circles I haunt, it sounds like they lost quite a few more than just me.  Granted, the ones they retained may outnumber those of us who moved down the dial to 570 AM WTNT or to internet streaming from other markets and I trust that they were well aware of this when they decided to remove a topic of such importance from The Grandy Group offerings.

Fort Hood Hamas Boy, Maj. Nidal Hasan, Article 32 Hearings Began and Stalled Today

We will have to wait a while to figure out what these guys are doing. The Article 32 hearing, similar to a Grand Jury hearing, but both sides get to question witnesses, has been delayed for at least one month.

President B. Hussein Obama looks at a rifle in satirical photo.
After President Obama and the rest of the upper chain-of-command did their best to tank this case before Palestinian-American Maj. Nidal Hasan was conscious, the prosecution probably has their hands full. It could have been a slam-dunk case without the 'help' of B. Hussein Obama.  An ardent follower of New Mexican imam, Anwar al-Awlaki, there is no question that MAJ Hasan entered a room full of soldiers, shouted "Allahu Akbar!" (الله أكبر, Arabic for "God is great!") and started shooting with two pistols.  The administration and upper echelons of the military immediately went directly into appeasement mode, bowing to the Liberal Media in attempts to show sensitivity to the Left and to the Islamists of the world.  The nation, including all ranks of the military, were cautioned not to retaliate, or create any other sort of "backlash", something our current society is famous for not doing.

Imam Anwar al-Awlaki, MAJ Hasan's spiritual leader
The press went crazy trying to explain the terrorist behavior of MAJ Hasan as some sort of a "snap", even after the evidence flowed in that this jihadi sleeper was behaving in the same Islamic supremacist manner for decades in the Army.  Some offered the lame excuse that Hasan had been traumatized by war and that made him 'snap'. When it was revealed that he had never deployed, the theory that he 'snapped' at his upcoming deployment was broadcast far and wide. The subscribers to that theory did not appear to like the new name "pre-traumatic stress disorder" so they speculated some more, saying that Hasan counseled soldiers returning from war and that those horrors made him 'snap.' Thus the new term, "pre-traumatic stress disorder by proxy".

Palestinian-American Major Hasan
A Time/CNN article mentions, truthfully, that the Army is now taking steps to identify this behavior earlier to prevent incidents like this from happening in the future. One of those steps, in an unrelated case, has met with Leftist whining too. SPC Manning, of Wikileaks fame, was observed as having signs of instability. His weapon was disabled while he was in Iraq and the Left had a fit about that, saying that he was "defenseless" on his base. A quite laughable charge even from people who have never been close enough to a base for a protest, much less know how deep inside the wire an Intelligence Specialist works.  No, the problem is not spotting people acting like traitors or jihadists, the problem is with the politically correct responses that service members have been conditioned to make.  Hasan had been reported repeatedly and nothing was done about it. He continued with his subversion plans and took them to the point of murder.

The Associated Press: Defense seeks delay in Fort Hood shooting hearing:
"FORT HOOD, Texas — A military hearing to determine whether an Army psychiatrist should go to trial for a deadly shooting rampage at Fort Hood was abruptly adjourned Tuesday when defense attorneys asked for a nearly monthlong delay.

The start of the Article 32 hearing involving Maj. Nidal Hasan had been stalled for more than 2 1/2 hours because of what Col. James L. Pohl, a military judge acting as the investigating officer in the case, described as scheduling issues.

Shortly after it began, defense attorney Lt. Col. Kris Poppe asked that the proceeding be delayed until Nov. 8 and said attorneys needed a day to explain the request in writing. Pohl adjourned the hearing until Wednesday.

'We're not operating on a time limit or clock,' Pohl said. 'We've got to protect everybody's right. I've got to make a record.'

Hasan, 40, is charged with premeditated murder and attempted premeditated murder in the Nov. 5 attack, which killed 13 people and wounded 32 others. It was the worst mass shooting at an American military base."
