Iranian President Meets Farrakhan In NYC:
"(NewsCore) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's six-night visit to NYC included a secret sit-down with militant minister Louis Farrakhan, the New York Post reported Sunday. Not much of a secret, eh? Wait, there is more:
The president shared a hush-hush meal with Farrakhan and members of the New Black Panther Party Tuesday at the Warwick Hotel on West 54th Street.
The meeting took place during Ahmadinejad's stay in NYC to address the U.N. General Assembly. He met Farrakhan, the fiery 77-year-old leader of The Nation of Islam, in the Warwick Hotel's banquet hall."
Ahmadinejad's speech Thursday, during which speculated that the U.S. was behind the 9/11 terror attacks caused outrage, caused a walk-out by U.S. delegates.
The speech was just part of the Iranian leader's bizarre six-night NYC visit.
On Thursday night, Sudanese diplomats trying to get in to see him at the Hilton Manhattan East, on 42nd Street, squared off with security and a pushing match ensued.
And even more!

Two well-dressed women in their 40s then came in, sat at the hotel bar and ordered drinks.
One of them caught the attention of the president's security detail, which had set up a station in the hotel lobby.

She was soon surrounded by eight angry Iranians, who ordered her to leave. She refused.
A manager tried to calm things down. Suddenly, the woman stood up and pointed at the Iranians, yelling, "You stoned my sister! You're murderers!"
Paranoia was on parade at the Hilton the moment the president checked in on Sept. 18.
Ahmadinejad's team took six floors of the Hilton to themselves in the hotel's south tower, about 90 rooms in all, when they checked in. More than 20 rooms were for security.

"With polls showing him trailing in New York's Republican primary race for U.S. Senate, candidate David Malpass told reporters Friday he planned to accuse his opponent Bruce Blakeman of racism just to see if it caught on with anybody."In the future, racism is still an issue. John Tagliaferro gets called a "wetback" in DC in Suki I, people call Suki "yellow" just because she is Asian (and brown), in Suki With A Twist, Suki plays off her customer's racial confusion and calls herself 'China' when she is working.

Racing to the bottom on Zoning and Property Rights
Reason, and its blog, have been on top of eminent domain abuse since their inception. They shined with learned opposition to the Kelo decision. Even this week, Hit & Run posted an insightful article exposing property rights abuses (through 'blight' ordinances) in Montgomery, Alabama (Sorry, I swear this evidence was on their blog this AM. I was sent a working link to it. Memory holes have been tricky since 1984).
All of that experience and insight evaporates as soon as religion is an element in the topic at hand. The Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church languishes, bound and strangled in New York Port Authority red tape for seven years, then cuts a deal with the Port Authority to relocate in the same neighborhood. If you want to read about that one on Reason you have to go into the comments to read what their online readers have to say about this blatant abuse of private property rights.
Does Reason ignore every religious property that gets stepped on by the state? Of course not. In true, Left-leaning form, they leaped to take sides on the Cordoba Mosque project. They joined the Leftist echo-chamber with shouts of bigotry and made sure to bash Sarah Palin in the process. Where is the outrage about the zoning abuses? For months a handful of their commentators, like some other fellow who goes by John, Suki my blog partner, and others were talking about the uneven handedness of New York City when it comes to property rights as soon as Reason began championing the Cordoba Mosque and their new-found support of freedom to worship. Frankly, this unwavering freedom is frequently expressed in the form of calling a wide swath of Christians 'fundamentalists' or 'fundies' in their stories, morning links, and in the comments' section of their blog. The commentators frequently pointed out that mayor Bloomberg never gave a care about property rights before a Mosque was making its way through the approval process. A process that ran at light-speed compared to others.
I wonder, if this were an Episcopal Church that got so many government favors, would perhaps another story be found besides “freedom of religion”? Especially with Commonwealth Edison as one of the property owners where the new place of worship is going to be built? Just a hunch that Matt Welch or Nick Gillespie could type that up between cosmotarian martinis and intern interviews.
The relevant issue for Libertarians (and libertarians) is, and always has been, the government using its regulatory power in an unequal manner. No matter if anybody besides the principles of the Greek Orthodox Church and the Port Authority of New York were the only ones aware of the Church issue, the basic issue remains. The Port Authority and the City used their powers to favor one organization while continuing to obstruct others. Discovering that the Greek Orthodox congregation has been stonewalled for almost ten years just makes the abuse that much worse.
Good thing Rush Limbaugh mentioned the Greek Orthodox situation on his show earlier today. Perhaps this aspect will get the mainstream media attention that has been missing since 9/11. The talkers on the Roe Cahn show (WLS-AM, 890, Chicago) even got it wrong right after the Limbaugh show.

Updated: Man Celebrating One-Year Anniversary Killed in Buffalo Restaurant Massacre - ABC News
Man Celebrating One-Year Anniversary Killed in Buffalo Restaurant Massacre - ABC News:
A man who had come to Buffalo from Texas to celebrate his one-year wedding anniversary was among five people killed in a shooting early this morning at a restaurant that also left three wounded.Series tie-in: Incidents like this are rare in Suki's world. Concealed carry is legal and easy in 2030's USA due to a series of court cases affirming the constitutionally protected Second Amendment Right of individuals to arm themselves.
A man has been taken into custody, reportedly in relation to the shooting, but police have declined to comment on whether the arrest made by a SWAT team was connected to the massacre.
Additional series tie-in: The saturation of voyeur cameras in the future makes the elimination of wrong suspects easier. However, due to video evidence abuse by the authorities in the past, using voyeur cam evidence in court against someone is is excluded, as a rule.

We're Having a Party - Hit & Run : Reason Magazine:

I think my favorite allegation against Rangel is the one where he's not in trouble because he offered hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks to companies in exchange for a donation to the City College of New York to support a new wing named in his own honor. He's in trouble because he solicited those donations on official House stationery.OMFG! That is clever.

Slashdot IT Story | ISP Owner Who Fought FBI Spying Freed From Gag Order:
'So you wonder what happens when an ISP recieves a a so-called 'national security letter' from the FBI? Well, read this about an ISP owner's fight to not have to turn over everything and the sink to the FBI: 'The owner of an internet service provider who mounted a high-profile court challenge to a secret FBI records demand has finally been partially released from a 6-year-old gag order that forced him to keep his role in the case a secret from even his closest friends and family. He can now identify himself and discuss the case, although he still can't reveal what information the FBI sought. Nicholas Merrill, 37, was president of New York-based Calyx Internet Access when he received a so-called 'national security letter' from the FBI in February 2004 demanding records of one of his customers and filed a lawsuit to challenge it.''
Obligatory series tie-in: Um, the government does not have that much power any more and information transmissions are more secure, trusted. Middle actors are not at much risk, the perpetrator and true collaborators are the targets. Yea, that'ts it! They can't go after the gas station owner because a bank robber fueled up the getaway car there!

SIOA: NYC's MTA Drops Restrictions on Free Speech, Allows Bus Ads Linking 9/11 to Ground Zero Mosque
New York City's Metropolitan Transit Authority on Monday dropped its restrictions on the free speech of the human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (FDI) and Stop Islamization of America (SIOA). MTA officials reversed an earlier decision not to allow FDI bus ads that pointed out the link between the September 11, 2001 jihad terror attacks and the proposed Islamic supremacist mega-mosque at Ground Zero.
FDI Executive Director Pamela Geller announced: "The MTA has recognized the justice of our position in our lawsuit, and has agreed to run our ad as originally submitted. This is a great victory for freedom of speech, and we are grateful to our attorneysDavid Yerushalmi and Robert Muise for mounting such an effective defense against politically correct censorship."
Responding to charges that the ad is offensive, Geller said: "What's more insulting and offensive -- that image of truth, or a 15 story mega-mosque looking down on the sacred ground of Ground Zero?"
The MTA reversal came after FDI filed a lawsuit on Friday, August 6, against the city of New York for infringement of thefreedom of speech, after the MTA refused to run FDI's "Preservation of Ground Zero" bus campaign.
The MTA claimed that it refused the campaign because it contained a "9/11 image," specifically "a plane," and associated the Islamic supremacist mega-mosque slated to be built at Ground Zero with the September 11, 2001 jihad terror attacks – an association that the mosque organizers have themselves made many times.
The full text of FDI's complaint is here.
