This puff piece does not have much to go out of your way for, other than the bit quoted below.  I am sure Wolffe believes being a busybody is the highest form of caring.

That brusque manner was a stark contrast to the personal attention he paid to those who needed help. He encouraged overweight staffers to shed pounds. He gave one aide a salad for lunch, then listened to him protest that he could take care of his own health. “I love you, man,” Obama said. “I want you to look after yourself. Eat the salad.”"

I know, I know, people like Wolffe and Obama are concerned for everybody.  Why, if everybody stayed healthy, all of that 'free' health care Obama, Pelosi, and Reid just handed out would be so much cheaper, right?  The non-sequitur just around the corner for the wagon circlers will be: "If dress codes can be imposed in the workplace, why not eating codes?  It is for the good of all!"  'Butt out' never occurs to some people.

No word yet if it was a tossed salad.

"ALBUQUERQUE — The White House billed it as a backyard visit in Albuquerque’s south valley, a chance for a disabled Marine Corps veteran, his family and their neighbors to pull up a lawn chair and share concerns with President Barack Obama.

But it sure sounded like a campaign stop to prop up New Mexico Democrats.

Obama addressed about 40 people at the stucco-sided home of Andy and Etta Cavalier, speaking on the importance of education in ensuring America’s economic future before taking questions from the group on matters ranging from immigration reform and veterans issues to why he is a Christian.

In the audience were Gov. Bill Richardson, Lt. Gov. Diane Denish and Rep. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., who suggested to Obama that he visit the semi-rural south valley, where a breeze smelled of alfalfa from an adjacent pasture and two horses grazed while the president spoke.

“When you get in the airport and see downtown, that’s all great, but I wanted him to see a piece of New Mexico that’s not going to look like the places he sees in Ohio and Virginia,” Heinrich said afterward. “We’re very proud of that. It’s not like Anywhere, USA.”"

No word if the Maobama put the Predator Drones on hold while he visited USA Islamic Terrorism Central, or if he was ready to duck.

Sounds like he skipped the tour of "Poncho Villa State Park," but the surprisingly good thing is he did not announce federal funding for a Che Guevara National Park.

"Because of what he now calls 'an error in judgment,' a Lehigh Valley carnival operator has sparked an outcry by running at summer church carnivals and fire department fund-raisers a shooting-gallery game that featured a President Obama-like figure.

'I didn't think it was offensive, and you know, I made the wrong judgment on it,' Irvin L. Good Jr., 68, said Wednesday. 'And that's all I can say about it. We did away with it, and I'm apologizing to everybody in the world, I think.'

Good, who has operated Goodtime Amusements in Hellertown for 26 years, said he used the Alien Attack game for about five weeks without hearing complaints.

Then, at a July 24 carnival at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Roseto, Kathryn Chapman, there with her family, noticed that one of the win-a-prize painted targets was a black man wearing a suit with a rolled-up 'health bill' in one hand - and an eagle-emblazoned belt buckle reading, 'The Prez Says.'"

The president appeared on ABC’s morning talk show “The View” Thursday, where he talked about the forced resignation of Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod, his experience with race and his roots.


When asked about his background, which includes a black father and white mother, Obama said of African-Americans: "We are sort of a mongrel people."


"I mean we're all kinds of mixed up," Obama said. "That's actually true of white people as well, but we just know more about it."

The Uppity Professor

UPDATE: Professor Ogletree was on MSNBC 8 FEB 2009.  Not sure if Jack Stripling is gitting his imagined thoughts of Professer Ogletree from that appearance.  He does not mention contacting the Professor independantly.  My take on it here.

Seems like the Left is trying to make hay of Sarah Palin's mentioning that President Obama was a Professor during her Nashvill Tea Party speech.  Obama sure thinks he was a Professor of Law at the University of Chicago, but people close to various Clinton activities have expressed doubt.  So, what's the problem?

Took me a while to find the original source for the latest leftoid imagineing of racism.  The Wall Street Journal had the source noted as Inside Higher Ed.  Oddly, they don't have their own big story on the front page, a little searching worked and it looks like Sarah Palin is a popular topic over there.

Neil Gross, Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of British Columbia, is quoted in Professor in Chief  by Jack Stripling:

“When Palin and others describe Obama as professorial in style, they are invoking themes and tropes that have a long history in American politics,” says Neil Gross, an associate professor of sociology at the University of British Columbia. “That longstanding tendency in American politics is also in this case being drawn together with an implicit criticism of liberal professors, which really only became a mainstay of conservative discourse in the 1950s.”

That rings pretty true.  Other examples are given in following paragraphs.  One that was missing was former Professor George Will's story of an early run for office by Daniel Patrick Moynihan and his opponent welcoming "Professor Moynihan" to the race.  Moynihan's response: "The mud-slinging has begun!"

What has become the money-passage, Harvard Professor and founding executive director of the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice, Charles J. Ogletree, weighs in (or not) with accusation of racism, for calling Obama a Professor:

“I think anyone who examines it closely and carefully will see this type of criticism of Obama will ultimately be counterproductive,” Ogletree says. “Do you want to tell your children we don’t want smart people in government?”




Ogletree, founding and executive director of the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice, says he sees the “professor” label as a thinly veiled attack on Obama’s race. Calling Obama “the professor” walks dangerously close to labeling him “uppity,” a term with racial overtones that has surfaced in the political arena before, Ogletree said. Describing his divisive confirmation hearings as a “circus,” Justice Clarence Thomas called the proceedings “a high-tech lynching for uppity blacks who in any way deign to think for themselves, to do for themselves, to have different ideas.…” It is perhaps ironic, then, that Ogletree, who represented Anita Hill when she made harassment allegations against Thomas in 1991, now sees a bit of the “uppity” label being placed on Obama.



“The idea is that he’s not one of us,” Ogletree says of the professor label. “He has these ideas that are left wing, that are socialist, that he’s palling around with terrorists -- those were buzzwords, but the reality was they were looking at this president as an African American who was out of place.”

 
That's the closest I could find to a source.  Not even full quotes.  Where did Ogletree actually say that Palin was calling Obama uppity, or coming danger-close?  It's all in the paraphrasing by the subjective writer.

Maybe Stripling thinks that Ogletree thinks Palin is calling Obama uppity?  Code-words are mentioned, but it looks like it is two Leftists speaking to each other in code and one of them writing it out for the rest of us from a decaying memory and active imagination.  Anybody have a decoder ring?  When did Professor come to mean uppity?
 
Whatever the case, this nonsense about 'code words' is getting pretty old.  It is just a vehicle for the accusor to make up whatever he wants about the accused.
 
The Wall Street Journal link above has a good story on this topic.  They even mention the CNN "go gangsta" incident that did not seem to get as much traction as this.

Jefferson Memorial dancer's suit against Park Service tossed

A federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit that alleged the National Park Service violated the rights of a District woman who was arrested in 2008 for dancing with 17 others at the Jefferson Memorial.

U.S. District Judge John D. Bates ruled in a 26-page opinion Monday that the interior of the memorial is not a public forum where people might dance, even if they are silently boogying to music on headphones.

"The purpose of the memorial is to publicize Thomas Jefferson's legacy, so that critics and supporters alike may contemplate his place in history," Bates wrote. "The Park Service prohibits all demonstrations in the interior of the memorial, in order to maintain 'an atmosphere of calm, tranquillity, and reverence.'

"Prohibiting demonstrations is a reasonable means of ensuring a tranquil and contemplative mood at the Jefferson Memorial," the judge added.

The suit stems from a dance by Mary B. Oberwetter and her friends inside the memorial at 11:55 p.m. April 12, 2008, the eve of Jefferson's birthday.

Christmas Bombing Try Is Hailed by bin Laden

WASHINGTON — Osama bin Laden, the leader of Al Qaeda, spoke publicly for the first time about the botched Christmas Day airliner bombing, praising the attempt — but not explicitly taking responsibility for it — in an audiotape broadcast Sunday that was aimed personally at President Obama.

An audiotape boradcast does not check the "spoke pubicly" block for me.  Any word from Fort Hood terrorist/murderer MAJ Hasan?  Same words, perhaps.

Mr. bin Laden said that the bombing attempt was a heroic act meant to recall the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in New York and Washington. He warned that more strikes against the United States were looming because of American support for what he called Israel’s repression of the Palestinians, one of Mr. bin Laden’s recurring themes in his occasional audiotaped anti-West invectives.

Sounds like it was written by Hasan.  Plus, bin Laden has a US President that one would think he would love.  Obama seems to want Israelis to willingly march into the sea.  Maybe not announcing that he wants them all shot is a step too short for bin Laden, so he addressed this tape to Obama.

Oh, for you terrorist embracing PLO, Hamas and Hezbollah loving types.  Stop denying that you are identical to al Qaeda, you are the same.  Okay, there are a few Marxists in your ranks, but everything else is the same.  You get your funding from the same idots who think they are donating to "schools and hospitals"  (honest brokers call them armories and ammunition caches).  You attack civilians as your primary targets.  You are all terrorists and so are the ones who support you.

“America will never dream of security unless we will have it in reality in Palestine,” Mr. bin Laden said. “God willing, our raids on you will continue as long as your support to the Israelis will continue.”

Mr. bin Laden said his statement was “from Osama to Obama.”

The one-minute recording, broadcast by Al Jazeera’s Arabic news channel, was the first time Mr. bin Laden, who is believed to be hiding in Pakistan near the Afghanistan border, had issued an audiotape in four months.

White House officials said they could not immediately authenticate the recording, but did not dispute that the voice was Mr. bin Laden’s. David Axelrod, a White House senior adviser, told CNN’s “State of the Union” that whatever the source, the message “contains the same hollow justification for the mass slaughter of innocents.”

It was not clear why Mr. bin Laden waited nearly a month to say anything about the Dec. 25 bombing attempt on Northwest Flight 253 from Amsterdam to Detroit, which was carried out by a passenger who sought to detonate explosives sewn into his underwear but was overpowered by other passengers. Federal investigators have said the suspect, a 23-year-old Nigerian, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, received training and the explosives in Yemen.

“The message delivered to you through the plane of the heroic warrior Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was a confirmation of the previous messages sent by the heroes” of Sept. 11, Mr. bin Laden said.

More at the link above, to include a blurb for an al Qaeda expert quoted by the Times saying bin Laden is not claiming responsibility, he is just praising the December bombing attempt.

Other reports across the internet and on the air report the tape as a claim of responsibility.

Harry Reid Apologises for his Vast Stupidity

Majority Leader Reid apologizes to Obama for 2008 remarks

Reid's remarks about Obama were revealed in "Game Change," a book detailing the 2008 race by Time's Mark Halperin and New York magazine's John Heilemann.
The authors describe Reid assessing Obama's strengths as a candidate. Reid, they write, "believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama -- a 'light-skinned' African American 'with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,' as he said privately. Reid was convinced, in fact, that Obama's race would help him more than hurt him in a bid for the Democratic nomination."

Is this sort of ancient speech common in modern Nevada?
