In other words: If you don't fork over your bag, you're going to get a whole lot of attention from law enforcement. This is no big surprise. On the day these screenings were announced we asked Taborn if investigators would be following up with anyone who opted out. He told us 'there's always a possibility,' which we took to mean 'most certainly.'"

"Stephen, 32, says the escalator was jam-packed with Caps fans, to the point where riders on the left no longer tried to walk down the steps. He wasn’t halfway down the escalator when “it felt like something let go,” he says. “You could still hear the motor going but it felt like it wasn’t hooked up to the conveyor belt.”

The escalator, Stephen says, started moving at at least twice its normal speed. People started to murmur, then to shout. Once people reached the bottom they scrambled to get out of the way of the riders behind them. People were yelling, “Get out of the way! Get out of the way!” When Davis hit the ground he jumped to the side.

“Everybody was freaking out at the bottom and running and trying to get away,” he says. “It was just dumping people at the bottom at a rate that was unsustainable.”

It all lasted a matter of seconds. The escalator slowed and then came to a stop. Davis says no one seemed to be seriously hurt. Everyone who’d been on the escalator headed toward the trains."

A similar accident happened at the L'Enfant Plaza station on 30 October, 2010.

HuffPo Defies Reality on Restore Sanity/Fear Rally

Huffington Post is laughable, as usual.  No, I will not be as nice as TheBlaze about it.  At first I thought the top photo at the link was doctored.  Now I am thinking camera angle.

If the angle is shallow enough, all the green space gets blocked by heads.

Man charged in bomb plot on Washington DC subway:

"Washington - A Pakistani-born man (Farooque Ahmed) has been arrested for a plot to bomb subway stations in and around Washington DC on Wednesday.

The Virginia man was indicted on charges that he attempted to aid what he thought were al-Qaida operatives in planning the bombings of several subway stations in the Washington area, according to a Washington Post report."

"Ahmed wanted to kill as many military personnel as possible," the complaint alleges.
Ahmed is the second would-be terrorist from Staten Island arrested this week. Abdel Hameed Shehadeh was charged Tuesday with lying to the feds about attempts to join the Taliban.

For some reason, the above quote is not used very much and "METRO riders" replaces "military personnel".
Other items from the story -  In Staten Island, he was registered as a Republican in 2002 (note: something not unheard of from radicals trying to stay below the radar) 
- His wife, Sahar Mirza, ran the Northern Virginia Meetup.Com group Hip Muslim Moms, under the banner of Moderate Muslim Moms. Some reports say she is from Birmingham, England.
- Farooque Ahmed is the son of a retired Pakistani bank executive.
- Farooque Ahmed is reported to have a LinkedIn profile that matches this one.
In predictable form, Salon asks: Did the FBI cook up a fake bomb plot?  without so much as a peek at the FBI's legal complaint.  They continue to poo-poo several of the pending cases against alleged terrorists.  At least they stop short of theorizing that the FBI placed the gun in the hand of MAJ Hasan to cook up a fake shooting spree.


I agree with others, like Joshua Pundit, that a radical wahabi imam/mosque connection is in this story somewhere waiting to be revealed.

Updated: Wheaton Metro Closed Again - Non-Electrified Escalator

I suspect Catwoman The Plot Thins:

UPDATE 8:36 a.m.: A Metro spokesperson tells ABC 7 News the escalators at the Wheaton Metro station were not electrified, as previously reported, and there was no danger to passengers because the power was out. After an extensive interview with the mechanics who worked on the escalators, a Metro spokesperson says the mechanics claim they never told Metro customers that electricity was running through the escalators, which is why they were out of service in the first place. The elevators were also out of service at this time.

6 Arrested in Gang Attack Near Metro Station

Metro transit police have arrested six teenagers in connection with the stabbing and assault of another teen during a gang-related fight last month near the Addison Road station in Prince George's County.

The victim, a 15-year-old boy, was waiting at the bus shelter area on the night of May 19 after an earlier fight with members of a rival gang, officials said. He told investigators that he was attacked by six members of the rival gang, including a woman who allegedly stabbed him four times and another person who hit him in the head with a stiletto heel.

Metro officials said the fight was between two gay and lesbian gangs that operate in Maryland.

In my books, crime is much greater in DC and Maryland than in Virginia.
