Canon Unveils 120-Megapixel Camera Sensor

Via the amazing CmdrTaco
Slashdot | Canon Unveils 120-Megapixel Camera Sensor:
"'Canon claims to have developed a digital camera sensor with a staggering 120-megapixel resolution. The APS-H sensor — which is the same type that is used in Canon's professional EOS-1D cameras — boasts a ridiculous resolution of 13,280 x 9,184 pixels. The CMOS sensor is so densely packed with pixels that it can capture full HD video on just one-sixtieth of the total surface area. However, don't hold your breath waiting for this baby to arrive in a camera. Canon unveiled a 50-megapixel sensor in 2007, but that's not made it any further than the labs to date.'"
Series tie-in? Um, picture resolution is really, really good in the future? Three-dimensional monitors are mentioned throughout both series.

Updated: Man Celebrating One-Year Anniversary Killed in Buffalo Restaurant Massacre - ABC News

UPDATE: Original suspect cleared of shooting.

Man Celebrating One-Year Anniversary Killed in Buffalo Restaurant Massacre - ABC News:
A man who had come to Buffalo from Texas to celebrate his one-year wedding anniversary was among five people killed in a shooting early this morning at a restaurant that also left three wounded.

A man has been taken into custody, reportedly in relation to the shooting, but police have declined to comment on whether the arrest made by a SWAT team was connected to the massacre.
Series tie-in: Incidents like this are rare in Suki's world. Concealed carry is legal and easy in 2030's USA due to a series of court cases affirming the constitutionally protected Second Amendment Right of individuals to arm themselves.

Additional series tie-in: The saturation of voyeur cameras in the future makes the elimination of wrong suspects easier. However, due to video evidence abuse by the authorities in the past, using voyeur cam evidence in court against someone is is excluded, as a rule.

Slashdot | Google Testing an Airborne Camera Drone

Slashdot | Google Testing an Airborne Camera Drone:
mbone writes

The Blogoscoped site carries news that Google has purchased a German 'Microdrone' for evaluation (here is the original German version). These devices can take off, fly a mission, and land automatically using GPS. They can carry night-vision cameras or even 'see-through-walls' Far IR cameras. Of course, the maker of these drones assures us that they cannot be a 'Big Brother in the sky' because that is 'verboten.' Is it just me, or is Google entering dangerous airspace here? It seems like the ruckus from a backyard-after-dark addition to Street View could completely overshadow the legal tussles Google has already encountered with its street-level photography.'
Reader Jaymi clues us to another airborne effort a couple of Google employees are mounting with some help from NASA Ames: the NexusOne PhoneSat project — to determine if low-cost mobile phone components can withstand space travel.
