Chrysler Workers Boozing during Break

Lunch with alcohol and weed. Must be great to be in a union, eh?

From the article -

"Response from the UAW:

The UAW strongly opposes the use of controlled substances or alcohol use on the job. This type of behavior jeopardizes the health and safety of all employees. We also recognize that, unfortunately, these behaviors exist in our society.
The UAW and the Chrysler Corporation work together to keep our workplaces drug and alcohol free, and to encourage employees with substance abuse problems to get the treatment they need. The employees involved in this situation do not represent the vast majority of workers at Chrysler who do a great job making high quality vehicles in some of the most productive manufacturing facilities in the United States."

I wonder who the union expects to pay for treatment? HA! Just kidding, they will have it in their next demands on management.

The Chrysler bankruptcy

Update: Arguably the most interesting dimension to the story is the way the Obama White House is openly working the P.R. ropes against foot-draggers in this process.
Lots of good links in the article too.

The National Review notes: Oppenheimer Funds Didn't Cave

Yesterday, Obama said, “I stand with Chrysler’s employees and their families and communities,” and not “those who held out when everybody else is making sacrifices.” Does that mean he doesn't stand with the thousands of Americans who have retirement plans withOppenheimer Funds?

And Suki reminds me that I need to change a book detail.  Her Jeep is a 2023 Wrangler and I am quoted by her saying it is a collector's item from the last year of Nazi rule over that brand.  Need some different phrasing.  Mentioned in the Hit & Run discussion above too.
