Yesterday, the Grandy Bunch, on WMAL-AM Washington, DC, were discussing this proposed law that will affect public schools in Wisconsin. I called in and actually got on air with them. Fred Grandy (R-IA, ret.) told the story of the Sioux City Sioux minor league baseball team leaving the league, then returning and the Sioux Nation not liking that name, so they were called "The Sioux City Explorers" because the Lewis and Clark Expedition went through the area. Good enough for my brainstorm: re-name Indian named teams for European explorers! If there is a team, say the Black Hawks, for argument sake, they can become the Conquistadors. Another team can be the Colombians (after Christopher, of course), DeSoto certainly cannot be left out in the Great Lakes area, and so on.
KEWAUNEE, Wis. — The homecoming pep rally Friday at Kewaunee High School will have extra drama this year: Everyone in town will learn whether they'll be rooting for the River Bandits or the Storm to beat the Valders Vikings in the big football game.
The selection of a new nickname is the culmination of a sometimes painful few months in this town of 2,745. Under a new state law meant to eliminate race-based nicknames, logos and mascots, a complaint prompted the Kewaunee School District to drop the "Indians" name that had been in use here since 1936.
"This has been a tough time," says Sandi Christman, who chaired a committee that got the whole community involved in the selection of a new name and mascot. "It's like losing a friend."

Finally got this one uploaded. Look for more as the week progresses. Eight video clips in all. I like the Socialist Worker bit the best. After I "donated" $1 for one of his papers it was my passport for the rest of the event. See clip three where I get the thumbs up from a sexy Socialist when she sees the paper in my hand.

Some joker, with Virginia license plate XHW-6575, decided to park on the Arlington Memorial Bridge to pick up a female companion. I did not start recording as soon as he stopped because I thought he was having car trouble. Started recording as soon as I figured out he was using the bridge as a passenger pickup point. Not sure if either of them are associated with the 10.2 'march'.
On Saturday, October 2, 2010, hundreds of thousands of people from across America will gather at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. to demonstrate our re-commitment to change. The One Nation March will feature human and civil rights leaders, labor leaders, environmental and peace activists, faith leaders, celebrities and sports figures – all marching together to help Put America Back to Work and to Pull America Back Together. And to help reorder our national priorities so that investments in people come first.
More info at that site. It really did not look like "hundreds of thousands" to me. The crowd was very nice. Much nicer than past rallies for events hosted by the Left.
I only stayed in the area for about one hour and recorded most of my wanderings on video. "Editing" that now, meaning posting it to my YouTube account in the proper size files with titles and other nice goodies.
Some of the signs and shirts from the rally march:
Shot from the top of the Washington Monument "hill".
Shot from the same location as I took a crowd shot during the Beck rally. See that post to compare.
"Kissing GOP Ass Gets You Tea-Bagged" and "Strong Middle Class Strong America"
"Kissing GOP Ass Gets You Tea-Bagged" and "Liberty & Justice For All Real Change"
"Hey Obama We're Tired of Bush-Lite! Single Payer Health Care - No War!"
"The Trickle Down Theory Is Nothing But A Golden Shower" and "Kissing GOP Ass Gets You Tea-Bagged"
"We March For Hope Not Hate"
"CWA 1180 Save Our City Support Public Health Tax The Wall St. Rich"
Trash left on the Arlington Memorial Bridge. See video for more at the 'march.'
Posting all of the video I shot of the 10.2.10 'march' (that looked a lot more like a rally to me), in order, in one post. YouTube limitations required me to split longer videos into clips of 15 min. or less. If you watch each clip in order you will see everything I shot, nothing was edited out. There are two major gaps. I stopped recording briefly near the Washington Monument and near the WWII memorial. The latter due to my accidentally shutting off the camera. The magic of Blogspot allows me to date this on 10.2.2010, even thought I am actually posting on 10.4.2010. May edit the notes that go with each some more, so bear with me.

Walking down Washington Monument hill toward the World War II memorial, panning to show how thin the crowd is.
Clip begins just past World War II memorial, leaving trail to show big empty fields on the way back to Lincoln Memorial.
Walking through empty areas that were set-up for crowds. Note the crowd fences. Also note while passing through a fence opening that Leftists cannot keep right. Lots of trash was left from small lunch gatherings even though plenty of trash cans were around.
I re-enter the walkway and the gathering, throw away my Socialist Worker newspaper and LaRouche flier, and then make my way back up to the Lincoln Memorial grounds. Video of the trash left laying on the steps of the memorial grounds. A "grim reaper" with a "Green Jobs" sign, and wearing an Arafat style tea towel, is seen just before I make it to the steps.
Feel free to compare my video to this work by Crooks and Liars. I found their comment on the DemocraticUnderground.Com site, with a bad link (I am giving you the working link). Even in the C&L link they accidentally show a big gap in people near the reflecting pool while trying to stay with the most deceptive angle possible.
Dave N., reporting live: Amazing. The crowd size was clearly larger than the one at Beckapalooza, and the energy was outstanding. You can see the video I shot above.
Also amazing: The kind of camera work I saw from C-SPAN. It looked to me as if they were deliberately shooting the few empty seats that were close to the podium. These empty spaces were largely the result of the way the crowd was fenced at the Mall. But as you can see, it was a massive event.
Pretty good comedy there, check it out. My videos show what was behind those little clumps of people obscuring the big empty spots.
