No wonder UPI is in the shape they are in. One of the allegedly missing phone calls is supposed to be with Rahm Emanuel. UPI is the only news org that does not mention this.

"CHICAGO, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Attorneys for former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich asked a federal judge to order prosecutors to produce records of two phone calls lawyers claim went missing.

In their motion, Blagojevich's attorneys said the calls support their client's claim he is innocent of charges he tried to sell President Barack Obama's U.S. Senate seat after the November 2008 election, WMAQ-TV, Chicago, reported Tuesday."

"CHICAGO (CBS) ― A permit has been denied to open a mosque at this site in West Rogers Park, where a hot dog restaurant previously stood.

It is an empty restaurant in the West Rogers Park neighborhood. Some wanted to turn into a mosque. Business leaders and the city apparently don't agree. CBS 2's Vince Gerasole reports.

It sounds a bit like the controversy over the proposed mosque in New York near where the Twin Towers fell. Perhaps at first glance, but not when you scratch beneath the surface.

We're hearing from the local chamber of commerceand alderman's office that the city has denied a special use permit that would allow a mosque to replace a shut down hot dog grill.

It's based on the need to generate tax revenue on the former site of the original Fluky's and later U Lucky Dawg, at 6821 N. Western Ave."

Another problem with zoning. Different than New York where a the runaround for a Church to rebuild is nearing the decade mark. This time it is Chicago refusing to allow a mosque due to some zoning excuse.

In the future, zoning is on its way out.

"A conservative group has been banned from holding a rally at Illinois’s Old State Capitol because the site prohibits political demonstrations — yet it’s the same place where President Obama announced his run for president and later, his choice of Joe Biden for vice president.

According to the State Journal-Reigster in Springfield, Ill., the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency denied a request by the group, Restore Our Constitution, to hold a rally both because of the site’s prohibition of political events and also because of a lack of resources due to budget cuts."

August 21, 2010 (ROSEMONT, Ill.) (WLS) -- Convicted felon Rod Blagojevich compared himself to a superhero while making a paid appearance at the Chicago Comic Con.

At one point Saturday, he picked up a red 'Bat phone' and joked that he was calling his lawyer.

If the charges weren't so serious, if the felony conviction didn't carry prison time, and if Rod Blagojevich wasn't Illinois' twice-elected former governor, all this might be 100 percent funny. Instead, Mr. Blagojevich's appearance left some saying 'Holy downfall, Batman!'

The former Illinois governor charged $50 for autographs, four days after a jury convicted him of lying to the FBI but couldn't reach a verdict on other charges.

Comic Con was the latest stop for the man who recently admitted he talks too much. But Blagojevich did plenty of talking Saturday as he signed autographs and took pictures with attendees.

Blagojevich Verdict (see scorecard for more detail): Governor Rod Blagojevich Guilty on One Count
Lied to federal government, count 24: Guilty, the only unanimous count. Five-year maximum sentence. Probable re-trial on other 23 charges.

Jury does not need to decide on forfeiture counts and is free to go.

Judge plans to call a mistrial on the rest of the counts. Robert and Rod will be retried.

Bloging the Blago Trial

Business Week reports: The federal jury for former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, and his brother Rob, has informed the judge that they have only reached agreement on two counts, none of them are of the eleven wirefraud counts the former governor is accused of committing.

The article does not mention which brother the charges that the jury agree on apply to.
 


Series tie-in: In the 2030s, the government has far less power and politicians cannot use the public fisc for their own benefit to the extent that they use it today.
