More Mad Zoning: Permit Denied For Mosque In West Rogers Park (Chicago)

Permit Denied For Mosque In West Rogers Park - cbs2chicago.com:
"CHICAGO (CBS) ― A permit has been denied to open a mosque at this site in West Rogers Park, where a hot dog restaurant previously stood.

It is an empty restaurant in the West Rogers Park neighborhood. Some wanted to turn into a mosque. Business leaders and the city apparently don't agree. CBS 2's Vince Gerasole reports.

It sounds a bit like the controversy over the proposed mosque in New York near where the Twin Towers fell. Perhaps at first glance, but not when you scratch beneath the surface.

We're hearing from the local chamber of commerceand alderman's office that the city has denied a special use permit that would allow a mosque to replace a shut down hot dog grill.

It's based on the need to generate tax revenue on the former site of the original Fluky's and later U Lucky Dawg, at 6821 N. Western Ave."
Another problem with zoning. Different than New York where a the runaround for a Church to rebuild is nearing the decade mark. This time it is Chicago refusing to allow a mosque due to some zoning excuse.

In the future, zoning is on its way out.

Islam: The Religion of Peace and Cosmotarians

This is the first image Google gives
me for "Cosmotarian Slut"?
John took his shot, now I am taking mine.

The coverage on the Ground Zero Mosque by Reason is laughable. Does their Cosmodroid fixation on the personal biases of some really have any place in a libertarian discussion about anything? I say no and I am pretty new to this too. I thought personal preferences were a big libertarian issue, that is preserving the rights of individuals to think as they may as long as it does not harm others.  In the case of the proposed Cordoba Mosque (re-branded as Studio51 or something), Reason has article after article about how any objection to the facility (recreation center, Mosque, foot washing fort, whatever) is only based on bigotry.  Hey, Cosmotarians, bigots are people too, and that is not even the issue.

People certainly have a right to be offended, in the same way that Tim Cavenaugh has the right to be offended by people who do not share his love for Judy Garland and her body of work. Why waste time complaining about that when there is a real issue of government steam rolling abuse going on? Is that not a true libertarian issue, or am I missing the whole point of being a libertarian?

I read Reason for a reason, to be informed of libertarian issues. For some reason, Reason has been ignoring the private property issue in Manhattan (yes, there are many, this is about the WTC site, that was attacked by the adopted soldiers of Cosmoitarians and I think the reason mentions in this paragraph only count as two drinks). Today is one of the first days in over a year that I did not bother looking at the site (until after work) since my “good morning” message, and I see I didn't miss a damn thing, unless you call Radley Balko managing to mention the Ground Zero Mosque (actually I missed that yesterday and caught it today) without bashing Sarah Palin an improvement.  That is another staple of Reason, if the Cordoba Mosque is to be mentioned, Sarah Palin must be bashed.  If there are Cosmotarian Sacred Scrolls, this must be one of the top edicts and Radley must be drinking virgin martinis for this infraction.

Enough of that, the issue at hand is the overly powerful mayor of New York and the even more powerful New York Port Authority misusing their power to streamline one house of worship into a space while they prevent another, that had been in the neighborhood for ages, from even rebuilding. THAT IS THE FUCKING ISSUE, REASON COSMOTARIANS!

Some troll ass (“The Angry Optimist”, who seems to only appear when he wants to call me a boy and changes his name to one of several and call John me) repeats the same comment about this issue, never providing anything of substance to any conversation: “No conservative cared about the Church being slighted until a few days ago.” So damn what? Many of us didn't know about the Greek Orthodox Church getting screwed by the Port Authority until a few days ago and that still does not change the fact that the Port Authority and the Mayor are giving the Mosque special treatment just because it is a Mosque. Reason is doing the same thing. It would still be special treatment if the Saint Nicholas Church never existed. Why didn't we read it first on the pages of Reason about this Church getting shafted? Simple, Cosmotarians hate Christians and they love Islam. No? Then you come up with a better answer.

Reason saying anything nice about Church or Synagogue property is as rare as them using “illegal” in a discussion about immigration. In yet another rarity, even that happened today in a Gillespie post. One person in the comments seemed to notice it too.  The fact remains, when property is owned by a non-Muslim congregation, Cosmotarians become Marxists on the private property issue.

So, Libertarian Magazine of Record, give me a reason to keep reading you instead of Slate, The Nation, The New Republic, or the World Socialist Web Site. They have the same attitude you do when real property is owned by a group of people who worship anything besides Ayn Rand.  I was being overly nice there.  I think my business is going to The National Review soon anyway.

Racing to the bottom on Zoning and Property Rights

Reason, and its blog, have been on top of eminent domain abuse since their inception. They shined with learned opposition to the Kelo decision. Even this week, Hit & Run posted an insightful article exposing property rights abuses (through 'blight' ordinances) in Montgomery, Alabama (Sorry, I swear this evidence was on their blog this AM. I was sent a working link to it. Memory holes have been tricky since 1984).

All of that experience and insight evaporates as soon as religion is an element in the topic at hand. The Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church languishes, bound and strangled in New York Port Authority red tape for seven years, then cuts a deal with the Port Authority to relocate in the same neighborhood. If you want to read about that one on Reason you have to go into the comments to read what their online readers have to say about this blatant abuse of private property rights.

Does Reason ignore every religious property that gets stepped on by the state? Of course not. In true, Left-leaning form, they leaped to take sides on the Cordoba Mosque project. They joined the Leftist echo-chamber with shouts of bigotry and made sure to bash Sarah Palin in the process. Where is the outrage about the zoning abuses? For months a handful of their commentators, like some other fellow who goes by John, Suki my blog partner, and others were talking about the uneven handedness of New York City when it comes to property rights as soon as Reason began championing the Cordoba Mosque and their new-found support of freedom to worship. Frankly, this unwavering freedom is frequently expressed in the form of calling a wide swath of Christians 'fundamentalists' or 'fundies' in their stories, morning links, and in the comments' section of their blog. The commentators frequently pointed out that mayor Bloomberg never gave a care about property rights before a Mosque was making its way through the approval process. A process that ran at light-speed compared to others.

I wonder, if this were an Episcopal Church that got so many government favors, would perhaps another story be found besides “freedom of religion”? Especially with Commonwealth Edison as one of the property owners where the new place of worship is going to be built? Just a hunch that Matt Welch or Nick Gillespie could type that up between cosmotarian martinis and intern interviews.

The relevant issue for Libertarians (and libertarians) is, and always has been, the government using its regulatory power in an unequal manner. No matter if anybody besides the principles of the Greek Orthodox Church and the Port Authority of New York were the only ones aware of the Church issue, the basic issue remains. The Port Authority and the City used their powers to favor one organization while continuing to obstruct others. Discovering that the Greek Orthodox congregation has been stonewalled for almost ten years just makes the abuse that much worse.

Good thing Rush Limbaugh mentioned the Greek Orthodox situation on his show earlier today. Perhaps this aspect will get the mainstream media attention that has been missing since 9/11. The talkers on the Roe Cahn show (WLS-AM, 890, Chicago) even got it wrong right after the Limbaugh show.
Series tie-in: zoning boards are generally crippled in the future. You can build what you like on your own property.

Islam vs. Other Religions at Ground Zero, NYC and the MSM

Following up on Suki's earlier post: The Greenroom God and Man at Ground Zero

Notice anything interesting about the following links? They are the top ones from a Google News search for St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Manhattan:

Leading article: Mr Obama stands up for tolerance

(mainstream UK news, does not mention the Church at all)

Mosque Moves Forward, Yet Church in Limbo

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which once sat right across the street from the World Trade Center, was crushed under the weight of the collapse of Tower Two on September 11, 2001. St. Nicholas was the only church to be lost in the attacks, and nine years later, while City of New York officials are busy removing every impediment to the building of the Cordoba mosque two blocks from the site, St. Nicholas’ future remains unclear.
Human Events is not that mainstream.

God and Man at Ground Zero

The one Suki blogged and Hot Air is not exactly mainstream either.

Church Near Ground Zero Asking For Attention

Here we go, MyFOX is a little closer.

Up at the top, the paid news links, a Washington Post article comes up, by accident, because a blog commentator mentions the St. Nicholas Church that was destroyed by Muslims in Europe. Interesting parallel to the one destroyed by jihadists Muslims in Manhattan.

Here is the scoop. The arrogant controllers of power in New York City have been preventing the reconstruction of the Saint Nicholas Church for almost ten years.  As soon as a questionable imam wants to put a "cultural center" within stoning distance of Ground Zero, every zoning obstacle is removed and they get the green light. Then Obama sends the questionable imam on a federal paid world tour to raise an additional $100 million for the project.

The Greek Orthodox project, on the other hand, already has pledges and donations from around the world and are ready to build, as soon as they get permission from Big Brother.

Too bad, in the eyes of Big Brothers Bloomberg and Obama, "zoning fairness" means Muslims first, at government expense.

The Greenroom God and Man at Ground Zero

The Greenroom: God and Man at Ground Zero:
"There are two relevant tales of Christian developments near Ground Zero. One involves a Greek Orthodox church, St. Nicholas’, which was crushed by the collapse of WTC Tower Two on 9/11. St. Nicholas’ Church was across the street from the World Trade Center. In 2008, a deal was announced with the New York Port Authority to rebuild the church two blocks from its original site. But civil authorities objected to the church’s plans for a larger structure, with a dome and spire in the Greek Orthodox tradition. Their express concern was that the church not be taller than the World Trade Center Memorial.

There is no apparent concern about the Park 51 Islamic center being taller than the WTC Memorial (it is). It will not be built as a wholly new structure, of course. But on the other hand, the commercial skyscraper planned by the Port Authority will be a new structure, and it will tower over the WTC Memorial. The principles at work appear to be as follows: new commercial structures may be taller than the Memorial. An Islamic group may occupy a building that is taller than the Memorial and devote it to a religious purpose. But a Christian structure may not be built taller than the Memorial."

Suki series tie-in: Islamic fundies are pretty much isolated to Iran and the West Bank. Zoning is out in most of East Coast USA.

FOXNews.com - Churchill Ordered UFO Coverup, Documents Suggest

FOXNews.com - Churchill Ordered UFO Coverup, Documents Suggest:

"In order to prevent a mass panic, Winston Churchill kept top secret a close encounter between a World War II pilot and an unexplained flying object, newly unclassified documents reveal.

The British prime minister said the unexplained incident should be kept secret for 50 years, fearing it would provoke a 'mass panic.'

The claim was discovered in files newly unclassified by the British Ministry of Defense. It came from a scientist who said his grandfather was one of Churchill's bodyguards.

According to the documents, details of the coverup emerged when the man wrote to the government in 1999 seeking to find out more about the incident. He described how his grandfather, who served with the Royal Air Force (RAF) in the war, was present when Churchill and U.S. General Dwight Eisenhower discussed how to deal with the UFO encounter.

The man, who is not named in the files, said Churchill was reported to have exclaimed, 'This event should be immediately classified since it would create mass panic amongst the general population -- and destroy one's belief in the church (sic).'"
