Ground Zero Imam Exposed Off-Mic | FrontPage Magazine (read the rest here):
"Thanks to Pamela Geller, an interview has how surfaced in which, after being assured that it has ended, Imam Rauf speaks “off-the-record” and reveals some intriguing plans and views that he has regarding America and the world. Geller got the tapes of the interview from the UK and transcribed the whole thing from start to finish.
The interview, given on June 20th, 2006, sees Rauf speaking about his “game plan” for achieving an Islamic State without borders, which — in his mind — has previously existed and should have continued to exist, if not for Western interference in the last century. The Ground Zero mosque imam also discusses some of his other objectives which include: (1) manipulating U.S. foreign policy, (2) advocating for Hamas and (3) getting “power” on his side to push back the opposing “interests.” In one part of the “post-interview,” he also boasts that he advised and influenced former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and that he has a blurb on the back of one of her books."

Suki's Morning Links
Decided to bring morning links back while my Blogger Reading List has so much juicy stuff in it and I just happened to get up so early without much else to do.

I think John uses the tried-and true SciFi writer technique of ignoring this possibility in his books ;)
Be prepared for more Gawker here, I like their slant sometimes.
I still giggle when I hear the name "Snooki".
Viking Landers May Have Missed Martian Organics
"A new study suggests that the Viking Landers might have found organic compounds on Mars, but failed to recognize them because of the methodology used to detect organics. The findings may suggest specific strategies that would improve on the way organic compounds are detected on the red planet."
I recall this one coming up before, years ago.

Errant Navy drone almost met by fighter jets
The Associated Press
Posted : Thursday Sep 9, 2010 14:45:59 EDT
WASHINGTON — The Pentagon said Thursday it was close to launching fighter jets — and briefly discussed a possible shoot-down — after an errant Navy drone wandered into restricted air space near the nation’s capital last month.
I think John uses the tried-and true SciFi writer technique of ignoring this possibility in his books ;)
Libertarian Review Archives Online
One of Reason's high-quality competitors from the 1970s-80s has a semi-complete archives now available online. It's a fabulous compendium of Carter-ish era libertarian historical fun. David Boazexplains the mag and what it accomplished, focusing on its amazing editor the late Roy Childs.Something Libertarian from before I was thought of.

This Is the World's Longest California Roll
About 300 people wearing matching shirts and sushi chef caps got together to roll the world's longest California roll at UMass Amherst on Monday, and beat UC Berkeley's previous record by 92 feet, for a total of 422 feet.
The roll used 650 sheets of nori, 200 pounds of rice, 200 pounds of imitation crab, and 100 pounds each of cucumber and avocado. Video full of lots of whooping and hollering UMass pride below.
Imitation crab? Why?"Product placement to promote your brand just isn't enough any more. These days, apparently, some companies are resorting to anti-product placement in order to get competitors' products in the hands of 'anti-stars.' The key example being Snooki from Jersey Shore, who supposedly is being sent handbags by companies... but the bags being sent are of competitors' handbags as a way to avoid Snooki carrying their own handbag, and thus potentially damaging their brand."
I still giggle when I hear the name "Snooki".Castro: Socialism 'Doesn't Even Work For Us Anymore'
What is going on withFidel Castro? The former Cuban President has been rather... candid, lately, admitting gay persecution was his fault and condemning anti-Semitism. Most recently? He told a reporter that the Cuban model of economics "doesn't even work."
Muslim To Muslim by National Treasure, Amy Alkon
A Muslim who builds mosques around the country calls Imam Rauf on the crap he's been peddling to a gullible American public and its gullible pundits, most of them wildly uninformed about Islam.
In the WSJ, M. Zuhdi Jasser has some questions for Rauf in a piece subheaded "He may not appear to the untrained eye to be an Islamist, but by making Ground Zero an Islamic rather than an American issue he shows his true allegiance."

Koran-B-Que for Mosque Move Swap
Listening to Roe & Roper on 890 WLS-AM, Chicago, the Gainesville, Florida Minister who was going to burn donated Qurans on 9/11/10, has cut a deal with the Ground Zero Mosque Imam to have the Mosque relocated in exchange for calling off his Koran-B-Que. Also, Donald Trump offered to purchase the Ground Zero Mosque property in Manhattan.
More from AP:
The leader of a small Florida church that espouses anti-Islam philosophy says he is canceling plans to burn copies of the Quran on Sept. 11.Already there is some confusion on this story. The Imam that Reverend Terry Jones spoke to was the Imam of Central Florida, not the Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf of the Ground Zero Mosque and the Ground Zero Islamic Center is denying any deal.
Pastor Terry Jones said Thursday that he decided to cancel his protest because the leader of a planned Islamic Center near ground zero has agreed to move its controversial location. The agreement couldn't be immediately confirmed.
From USA Today:
In Kabul, hundreds of angry Afghans burned an American flag and chanted, "Death to the Christians" to protest the planned burning of Islam's holiest text. And Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas has jumped onto the scene:
"WBC burned the Koran once – and if you sissy brats of Doomed america bully Terry Jones and the Dove World Outreach Center until they change their plans to burn that blasphemous tripe called the Koran, then WBC will burn it (again), to clearly show you some things," the church announced in a news release this week.Westboro Baptist Church, the small Topeka, Kan., church that pickets funerals of American soldiers to spread its message that God is punishing the country for being tolerant of homosexuals, has vowed to hold a Quran burning if Gainesville's Dove World Outreach Center calls its off.

"A key financial backer of the proposed Islamic center near Ground Zero once contributed to a U.S.-designated terror group, MyFox New York reports.Wow, where have I heard this story before? In college and in northern Virginia, actually. "Hamas builds orphanages and hospitals" is usually how the script goes. They leave out, deny, or plead ignorance to the fact that Hamas uses these facilities primarily for military operations, like anti-aircraft platforms. Then they cry when those military installations get attacked and the civilians they were hiding behind get killed or injured. In this case, Elzanaty goes straight to ignorance of the fact that that HLF was a funding operation for Hamas.
Egyptian-born businessman Hisham Elzanaty, who made what is described as a 'significant investment' in the Ground Zero mosque project, contributed more than $6,000 in 1999 to the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, also known as HLF, tax records show.
The donations came two years before the federal government shut down HLF and designated it a terror group. Elzanaty's attorney told MyFox New York that his client believed at the time that he was donating to an orphanage. Elzanaty did not respond to questions.
Federal investigators say the group was set up as a Texas-based charity, but in fact supported Hamas.
Ray Locker, managing director of The Investigative Project on Terrorism, told MyFox New York that even in 1999, news outlets reported on possible ties between HLF and terror organizations.
Five HLF leaders were convicted in 2008 of providing support to Hamas."

Developer Of Community Center Has Lengthy Record, With Numerous Arrests Dating Back To 1990
. . . Kramer reports the developer’s reluctance to talk may have been related to his prior run-ins with the law.I know a few waiters and waitresses in Northern Virginia. Looks like Manhattan waiters make much better money and become financiers for multi-million dollar projects.
His most recent arrest was in 2005 for assault on a man he met while working as a waiter at Serafina Restaurant, who sublet an apartment from his brother. He reportedly punched the man, breaking his nose and cheekbone and spit on him.
El-Gamal first said he didn’t hit the man, but arrest documents obtained by CBS 2 showed he later conceded “his face could have run into my hand.”
Records showed El-Gamal also had trouble coming up with the $15,000 settlement reached in 2008, and had to pay interest . El-Gamal also has a number of other arrests on his record:
-In 1990, he was arrested in Nassau County and pled guilty to disorderly conduct.
-In 1992, he pled guilty in Nassau to DWI and paid a $350 fine.
-In 1993, he pled guilty in Nassau to attempted petit larceny and paid a $100 fine.
-In 1994, arrested for disorderly conduct in Manhattan.
-In 1998, there was another Manhattan disorderly conduct arrest.
-In 1999, yet another Manhattan disorderly conduct arrest.
A potential problem for the mosque developer is a deposition he gave in the assault case in October 2007. When asked if he was ever convicted or pled guilty to a crime, El-Gamal replied “no.” . . .

Another Isolated Incident: Anti-Muslim Stabbing in New York?
As the great Jonah Goldberg points out, this is probably an actual isolated incident. Read his post, he lays it out well. I have a question, for a much later post: Why is it that when these isolated incidents occur, the mainsrtream media and the energetic Left brace for and warn about widespread backlash that never happens?
This cab driver stabbing has much more to it than initial reports indicated. As usual, they hyper-Left was as wrong as wrong can be.
Anti-Muslim Stabbing in New York? - The Corner - National Review Online
Now for the additional information on the Muslim cab driver, Ahmed Sharif vs. a supporter of the Park51 Ground Zero Cordoba Recreation Center and Mosque, i.e., his attacker, Leatherman Tool wielding white liberal college student who supported the Ground Zero Mosque, Michael Enright.
This is news to you? Take it away, Ben Smith!
Will the next revelation be that Ahmed Sharif is against the Cordoba Mosque project?

Anti-Muslim Stabbing in New York? - The Corner - National Review Online
Read more at The Corner. This is almost certainly an isolated incident, in the sense that Michael Enright was almost surely acting alone. Indeed, if he was a lone psycho, that would mean that by any measure this is far more of an “isolated incident” than any of the recent Islamic terrorist attacks the Obama administration and the press insisted were isolated incidents. By the Left’s own logic, there is, if anything, far less reason to say this attack (if the early reports are accurate) reflects American “Islamophobia” than there was to say that the Ft. Hood shooter or the attempted Christmas and Times Square bombers represented the worldwide Muslim community.
But as often at the intersection of politics and violent crime, the story doesn't appear to fit any easy stereotype: The alleged assailant, Michael Enright, is — according to his Facebook profile and the website of the left-leaning media organization Intersections International — a student at the School of Visual Arts and a volunteer for Intersections, which recently produced a statement of support for the Park51 project and is funded by the mainstream, liberal Collegiate Church of New York.
But this appears to be the same man: Police described Enright as a resident of Brewster, 21 years old, and an employee of an "Internet media company who had recently spent time with a combat unit in Afghanistan filming military exercises until this past May."
But, wait, there's more:
Will the next revelation be that Ahmed Sharif is against the Cordoba Mosque project?

Fun with Reason's Morning Links: Obama's Muslimness
Expect B. Hussein Obama to blitz Christian Churches of every stripe, most Sundays and maybe Wednesdays, from now until Novembeer 2012. - John Tagliaferro*
If you are not familiar with Reason's Morning Links, you haven't been reading Suki's posts much. I don't remember the last time I posted anything about them. However I do read them regularly.
After Reason's barrage of Ground Zero Mosque (stories that had little or nothing to do with libertarian issues), that seemed like months but was probably just a few days, my annoyance level has been elevated. Today's morning links diffused that a bit when I spotted one to have some fun with: New poll: One in five Americans believes Barack Obama is a secret Muslim. Unfortunately, Rush was talking about this for over an hour (he is talking about it again now) and I just got to it after hearing his take. I did hear about the poll long before Rush's show came on the air.
What would be the libertarian take on this bit of electorate confusion? I know the Libertarian issue: Barry Hussein Obama is not Bob Barr, the small L issues are many.
First, something Rush observed that dovetails with mine: It really does not matter what Obama's religion is. Unless you are a member of a religious party in the US, it really should not make any difference if he is in a Christian sect, a Muslim sect, Jewish or none of the above. It probably matters greatly to Cosmotarians, in some shallow and meaningless way, but to those of us who value freedom of choice, his personal choices matter not one bit to us.
Rush played some MSNBC audio from a Pew Research Center representative who was being interviewed about the survey. I am going to start with the Washington Post article that Radley Balko linked to. Remember his title? One in five Americans believes Barack Obama is a secret Muslim. In the first paragraph, the Post informs us that this is an increase since B. Hussein Obama entered the presidency. Now that is the makings of a headline! Obama has had more air time in a few months than any other president since television was created. No telling how many internet eyeballs he gets. He is mentioned on this blog regularly too. We report, you do what you want.
So, on the social issue, fit for Entertainment Tonight or the 700 Club (is that still on?) more and more people believe Obama is a Muslim. Soon after the Post informs us that this is a trend, they mention that it could be a political problem! "Rising trend in Obama's Supporters Percieving Him as a Muslim could be a Reelection Problem" might sound a little better and more accurate, but the Post article does not mention Democrats and runs off into 'mean media' conspiracy theory for an answer. For some reason, they mention only Republicans and Independants:
First, I had to dig up the Pew results, since neither the Post nor Reason bothered to link there. From their headline and first paragraph, it is a bit of a stretch to say "one in five" since they cite 12%:
What could possibly explain all this? Rush pointed out, he does not attend services like other presidents have. I will add that Bill Clinton only went Church crazy when he was well on his way to his impeachment hearings. Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush and Bush did not need any prompting to attend and made no secret about attending. Maybe something in Obama's actions is giving people these impressions?
George Stephanopoulos tried to help him out, but a copy of the interview floating around does not help:
Looks like about 1:20 into this clip.
How about other factors? Like running to the rescue of the "Allahu akbar" shouting MAJ Hasan, to the point that command influence may be a major defense strategy. Maybe it is how he jumped into the Cordoba/Project 51 Mosque/recreation center issue? Maybe it was when he gave NASA a new mission, to stop exploring space and help Muslims with math and science? How about all that bowing? Skipping the National Day of Prayer? Phoning in his address to the Boy Scouts? Sending the Ground Zero imam on a vacation at tax-payer expense? The only thing the Post can blame on talk radio is the tendancy for them not to ignore these things like the Post and MSNBC tend to do.
*I have heard similar from others already today.

For some reason, they mention only Republicans and Independants:
More than a third of conservative Republicans now say Obama is a Muslim, nearly double the percentage saying so early last year. Independents, too, are now more apt to see the president as a Muslim: Among independents, 18 percent say he is a Muslim, up eight percentage points.Note the interesting phrasing. For Republicans, the percentage doubled in a year. For Independents it went up eight percentage points to 18%. Pretty much double there too. What of the Democrats?
First, I had to dig up the Pew results, since neither the Post nor Reason bothered to link there. From their headline and first paragraph, it is a bit of a stretch to say "one in five" since they cite 12%:
A July Pew Research survey found 12% of Americans continue to say Barack Obama is Muslim, virtually unchanged from 10% in March. This misperception is not limited to voters who oppose Obama. Identical percentages of Republicans and Democrats (12% each) think he is Muslim, and 37% of those who think he's Muslim intend to vote him. A quarter doesn't know, but significantly those who have heard different things back McCain (48% to 33%) while those who just don't know back Obama (48% to 33%).Ah, Democrat perceptions are identical to Republican and rising at the same rate. I like my headline better :)

Something else Reason keeps missing on this story. The State Department is funding imam Rauf on his world fund raising tour.
Me, little miss newbie to libertarianism, thinks there should be some sort of libertarian issue in there someplace. You would think I could see it at Reason first, right? Not a chance, unless they start calling the rest of us religious bigots for questioning government money for his little fund raising tour.

"Then we come to Imam Rauf himself. To his liberal defenders, he is a sort of respectable Deepak Chopra who at respectable places like Aspen mouths pop platitudes of interfaith tolerance — so much so that our own State Department has employed him, apparently for quite some time, for goodwill gallivanting abroad.
But to those in the Middle East, he is known equally well for doing what he can, as a Western liberal, to contextualize terrorism, bin Laden, and Islamic extremism within the tired Western postmodern tropes of cultural relativism: “The United States’ policies were an accessory to the crime that happened” on 9/11; “In fact, in the most direct sense, Osama bin Laden is made in the U.S.A.”; “The U.S. and the West must acknowledge the harm they have done to Muslims before terrorism can end”; “The issue of terrorism is a very complex question”; “The Islamic method of waging war is not to kill innocent civilians. But it was Christians in World War II who bombed civilians in Dresden and Hiroshima, neither of which were military targets” — blah, blah, blah, like all the thinkery that one hears in the faculty lounge."

Islam: The Religion of Peace and Cosmotarians

The coverage on the Ground Zero Mosque by Reason is laughable. Does their Cosmodroid fixation on the personal biases of some really have any place in a libertarian discussion about anything? I say no and I am pretty new to this too. I thought personal preferences were a big libertarian issue, that is preserving the rights of individuals to think as they may as long as it does not harm others. In the case of the proposed Cordoba Mosque (re-branded as Studio51 or something), Reason has article after article about how any objection to the facility (recreation center, Mosque, foot washing fort, whatever) is only based on bigotry. Hey, Cosmotarians, bigots are people too, and that is not even the issue.
People certainly have a right to be offended, in the same way that Tim Cavenaugh has the right to be offended by people who do not share his love for Judy Garland and her body of work. Why waste time complaining about that when there is a real issue of government steam rolling abuse going on? Is that not a true libertarian issue, or am I missing the whole point of being a libertarian?
I read Reason for a reason, to be informed of libertarian issues. For some reason, Reason has been ignoring the private property issue in Manhattan (yes, there are many, this is about the WTC site, that was attacked by the adopted soldiers of Cosmoitarians and I think the reason mentions in this paragraph only count as two drinks). Today is one of the first days in over a year that I did not bother looking at the site (until after work) since my “good morning” message, and I see I didn't miss a damn thing, unless you call Radley Balko managing to mention the Ground Zero Mosque (actually I missed that yesterday and caught it today) without bashing Sarah Palin an improvement. That is another staple of Reason, if the Cordoba Mosque is to be mentioned, Sarah Palin must be bashed. If there are Cosmotarian Sacred Scrolls, this must be one of the top edicts and Radley must be drinking virgin martinis for this infraction.
Enough of that, the issue at hand is the overly powerful mayor of New York and the even more powerful New York Port Authority misusing their power to streamline one house of worship into a space while they prevent another, that had been in the neighborhood for ages, from even rebuilding. THAT IS THE FUCKING ISSUE, REASON COSMOTARIANS!
Some troll ass (“The Angry Optimist”, who seems to only appear when he wants to call me a boy and changes his name to one of several and call John me) repeats the same comment about this issue, never providing anything of substance to any conversation: “No conservative cared about the Church being slighted until a few days ago.” So damn what? Many of us didn't know about the Greek Orthodox Church getting screwed by the Port Authority until a few days ago and that still does not change the fact that the Port Authority and the Mayor are giving the Mosque special treatment just because it is a Mosque. Reason is doing the same thing. It would still be special treatment if the Saint Nicholas Church never existed. Why didn't we read it first on the pages of Reason about this Church getting shafted? Simple, Cosmotarians hate Christians and they love Islam. No? Then you come up with a better answer.
Reason saying anything nice about Church or Synagogue property is as rare as them using “illegal” in a discussion about immigration. In yet another rarity, even that happened today in a Gillespie post. One person in the comments seemed to notice it too. The fact remains, when property is owned by a non-Muslim congregation, Cosmotarians become Marxists on the private property issue.
So, Libertarian Magazine of Record, give me a reason to keep reading you instead of Slate, The Nation, The New Republic, or the World Socialist Web Site. They have the same attitude you do when real property is owned by a group of people who worship anything besides Ayn Rand. I was being overly nice there. I think my business is going to The National Review soon anyway.
