Park Service: 'No Guarantee' Stewart and Colbert's Washington, D.C., Rally on National Mall Will Happen - DailyFinance:Choice quotes from Bill Line, Spokesman for the National Park Service:
"'The one and only thing that has happened is the National Park Service has received a paper application,' Line told DailyFinance. Until the Park Service and Comedy Central can reach a 'meeting of the minds' on a number of issues that need to be worked out before the application is approved, 'we cannot say that there is any guaranteed permit here,' Line said.

'The National Park Service has no deadline other than Oct. 30 to either grant or deny the permit,' Line added."
This is looking far from a slam-dunk for the Comedy Central news parodists. Another quote from Bill Line:
"There are a number of points that have to be addressed by anyone who walks in the door, and each application is unique," Line said. "We have to hear from them what exactly it is they are proposing to do."
I seriously doubt that Colbert's comedy act in front of a congressional committee is going to be any help in this regard. The article goes on to quote the spokesman on points of purpose and contingencies. One big item is the no advertising rule. The Left's Glenn Beck envy tour continues.

Nicaraguan diplomat found with throat slashed had human hair in his hands, police commissioner says

A Central American diplomat found dead with his throat slashed in the Bronx held human hair in both hands - suggesting a fierce struggle in his final minutes, police sources said.
Nicaraguan Consul Cesar Mercado was clutching 10 hairs in his right hand and five in the left when his body was discovered, Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Friday.
The evidence suggests a fight to the death, with police sources telling the Daily News that Mercado likely knew his killer. In addition to the throat wounds, Mercado was stabbed a dozen times in the stomach.

Lindsay Lohan Free At Last:
"There is no question that Ms. Lohan is entitled to bail while her alleged probation violation is being adjudicated," Chapman Holley claimed in her lightning-fast writ of habeas corpus.
Schnegg agreed, ruling that Judge Elden Fox overstepped his authority when he stripped the relapsed redhead of her $1,200 sandals and had deputies haul her away in handcuffs.
Schnegg said California law guarantees defendants bail in misdemeanor cases and set bail along with some stringent conditions, including a new booze-monitoring SCRAM anklet - the actress' third.
Lohan's bail bondsman said earlier in the day he was prepared to spring the "Mean Girls" star with bail as high as $1 million, so her release appeared imminent.
"I was surprised. In my 20 years, I don't think I've ever seen no bail for a misdemeanor," David Perez said after Fox's surprise ruling.
